New Year’s Eve is the one night everyone goes out and celebrates! With all that is happening in the world, we definitely need a good start to 2016. However, trying to figure out where to go and what to do in Washington DC can be quite intimidating. There are a number of good guides for a great New Years Eve in Washington DC but we wanted to condense everything and include it in one post. There are a number of things to think about in advance to plan the perfect New Year’s Eve night out.
One of the big mistakes people make when planning their New Year’s Eve night out is not getting a hotel or booking a hotel way too early. A hotel allows you to not have to worry about trying to get home at the end of night, as you can book your hotel near your party location. It is also an awesome way to pre-game and get a few cocktails in. On top of all that, it just adds to the special nature of New Year’s Eve.
When you book a hotel, the trick is find something close to the area where your party is. Washington DC is not a huge city — I like to call it a big small city. Thus, if your event is in Northwest, you could pretty much book a hotel anywhere in Northwest, and be 5-10 minutes drive to the venue. I found that booking a hotel well in advance is not necessary. Last year, even hotels like The W, had rooms available on the 30th of December. In addition, hotels like One Washington Square Hotel, many times discount rates when they cannot sell their rooms for New Year’s Eve. I have gotten rooms for under $135 (with tax).
So you got your hotel, but now you need to get around the city. What should you do? Well in the day of apps and more apps, you have a number of options. First, you can always Lyft (our friends at 360nightlife gave us a code you can use – 360NIGHTLIFE at the payment screen for $20 free credit). Second, you can always Uber. Third, you can hail down a DC taxi cab. DC taxi’s on New Year’s Eve are generally plentiful and you can avoid surcharges that the apps may give out.
